ARTIST STATEMENT

"Whatever one decides to work at, one eventually discovers that the endeavor demands something of the internal as well as the external self. In some respects, geometrical forms may just be shapes. However, if the task of creating each one is met by bringing my whole self into the particular moment, individual distinction naturally asserts itself each time. The repeated use of symbols are my tools to express ideas and emotions. They are a way for me to represent relationships and situations metaphorically. There is an everyday tension between such elements as: order and disorder; material foundation and spirit; finite and infinite. There is need for both, yet we seem to struggle with this dichotomy. For myself, both the process and end product of creating this work allow for a simultaneous experience of containment and freedom."
