ARTIST STATEMENT
"I am interested in light and form using simple, organic subject matter. Oil pastel is my medium of choice. My work is an attempt to convey a small glimpse of the beauty and majesty that is our little corner of the world. Many years have been, and continue to be, spent moving about the area, experiencing and documenting. I conceive and create with the idea of a "visual" journal that keeps track of those special times and places. Each piece has significant personal history and tends to become part of a series allowing me to re-visit for extended periods."
ARTIST BACKGROUND
Born and raised in Seattle, I've lived my adult life in Oregon, Washington and Alaska. My formal art training was at Cornish School in Seattle.
I became interested in scrimshaw when I moved to Alaska in the mid 1970s. I've continued to work in that medium throughout my adult life. In the mid 1980s I began a jewelry apprenticeship with Lois Bertolino and continued working with her for several years before venturing out on my own as a jewelry artist. I continue to pursue my jewelry work.
I recently discovered oil pastel and I've found that it is now my medium of choice. The whole experience is meditative.
