Elizabeth Kincaid

ARTIST STATEMENT

"I paint images I find in nature that attract me by their abstract shapes and patterns and the way light falls on them and brings color alive. I am excited by a feeling of movement and energy in nature and colors that sing next to each other. I look for subtle color shifts and then enhance those colors in my paintings so that my work has the richness of my experience of the world about me. I see the world as a bright, scintillating network of interconnecting shapes, always moving and alive. I work in a realistic style that is strongly graphic and impressionistic. I build paintings from many thin glazes of brilliant and luminous color."

Elizabeth Kincaid is the author of "Paint Watercolors That Dance With Light" published by North Light Press in 2004.
Elizabeth earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Washington and worked for a number of years in that field. She was graphic designer for South Seattle Community College and did freelance illustration. She has taught watercolor classes and workshops privately in her home studio, now in Kirkland, as well as at the Santa Cruz Art League, in Langley, WA, Media, PA, Tulare, CA, Victoria, BC, and Spokane, WA. Last year she gave a demo at Daniel Smith Art Supply in Seattle and will give a demo there this year (2007) as well. She will give a demo at the January 2008 meeting of the Northwest Watercolor Society. She has taught watercolor at the Kirkland Arts Center. In the past 16 years, Elizabeth has sold over 400 paintings. They are in many private and corporate collections. She is a member of Women Painters of Washington and a signature member and past treasurer of the Philadelphia Water Color Club.

Kincaid has recently moved back to the Northwest after living for five years in Pennsylvania and Maryland and ten years in Soquel, California. She has set up a studio and classroom in her new home in Kirkland and is currently looking for new students. She paints a variety of subject matter in watercolor, including flowers, birds, animals, and landscapes.
