Beverly Shaw-Starkovich

ARTIST STATEMENT

"The sun rises and sets every day, but we never see the same sunrise or sunset twice.  If we have the luxury, or the smarts, to stop and just enjoy those moments, we can store the joy and peace they give us in our mind and heart.  Although my work is often inspired by nature and what I see, it does not necessarily represent specific places.   My desire is not to render a subject, but to use color to create energy, to stimulate, or to capture a thought.  My goal is to present images to the viewer that will act as a catalyst for their own imaginations to create a story, generate an emotion, or evoke a memory.

I have concentrated on color, shape and volume in an effort to create a mood and express my feelings.  In addition to the medium, I use music to sooth and motivate me while I work.   It is my hope that the viewer will relate to these feelings or conjure up their own story or memory, or at the very least, hear the music from within."
