ARTIST STATEMENT"My paintings reflect my interpretation of popular culture, social injustice, political craziness and various American pastimes. The banality of ordinary life can be transformed and intensified when viewed through colored lenses." ARTIST BACKGROUNDMy birth and upbringing in Lincoln, Nebraska had much to do with becoming an artist. My parents, immigrants from Kiev, Russia, thought it their duty to introduce me to American culture. We spent many a wintry day wandering through the University of Nebraska art collection and dinosaur display. The Picassos, Grant Woods and Arps inspired me to enroll in the University of Nebraska School of Art at the age of 18. My studies were interrupted when I married and moved to Seattle. My early years in Seattle involved taking night courses in jewelry and sculpture at the University of Washington and raising my family. I later received my degree in Fine Arts, majoring in printmaking and painting. I have kept involved in a variety of art media and for the past ten years I have worked primarily in watercolor and acrylics on paper. MEDIA
