Soul of the Sea
Women Painters of Washington proudly presents at the Macy’s Gallery a solo exhibition of the artwork of D’elaine Johnson. Her works feature the beauty and intrigue of the element of water and its symbolism. Johnson’s art takes cultures to their ancient roots through myth and lore of the world’s water. The viewer travels in past time in a current context.
This series began in 1971 and is approaching 1000 paintings with documented writings. Hundreds of her works have been collected throughout the world. She has won many awards and honorariums and has participated in over 700 solo and juried exhibitions. She is a painter, diver, writer, educator, violinist and philanthropist. A selection of 18 paintings will be on view to the public.
The history of the Macy’s (Bon Marche) Gallery dates back to the early 1900’s. It has exhibited the art of many local notables and in the year 2000 became an exclusive gallery for the Women Painters of Washington thanks to the efforts of D’elaine Johnson. She has overseen more than 150 solo exhibitions in the gallery. Johnson, who brought the space to the Women Painters, will be the final to exhibit in the gallery. This will be the last exhibition by the Women Painters of Washington in the Macy’s Gallery.
